Leo Woodall and Kate Winslet will appear in the Lord of the Rings spinoff The Hunt for Gollum.

Warner Bros. has finally announced the cast for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, scheduled for release in 2027. Fans of the Tolkien universe have been eagerly awaiting this moment.

Leo Woodall (One Day, Bridget Jones, Nuremberg), Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey), and British actress Kate Winslet will appear in the world of Middle-earth for the first time.

In February 2023, it was announced that Warner Bros. was planning to make several films based on J.R.R. Tolkien's books, with The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum being the first of them.

The cast was announced at Warner Bros.' annual CinemaCon presentation, an event where studios and movie industry representatives get their first look at upcoming releases.

The film will be directed by Andy Serkis, who previously played Gollum in the trilogy. The spin-off will chronicle the early journey of Aragorn, one of the main characters in Tolkien's novel.

Aragorn will be played by BAFTA and Golden Globe nominee Jamie Dornan, who gained widespread recognition for his role as Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey films in 2015.

In the original trilogy, Aragorn was played by Viggo Mortensen.

29-year-old British actor Leo Woodall, who literally burst onto the world cinema scene in 2024, will play the role of Halvard.

The role of Marigold will be played by Titanic star Kate Winslet.

When Warner Bros. announced the casting on Instagram, fans immediately began to react actively.

Most of the cast is fairly new, but there are also critics calling for the return of familiar faces, such as Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn.

Sir Ian McKellen, Elijah Wood, and Andy Serkis will reprise their roles as Gandalf, Frodo Baggins, and Gollum/Sméagol, respectively. Lee Pace will also reprise his role as the Elven king Thranduil, a familiar face from The Hobbit.

The Lord of the Rings franchise is hugely popular, having grossed around £2,5 billion (around $3 billion) at the box office.

Moreover, the main fan base formed around the world long before the film adaptation of the novel.

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is scheduled to premiere on December 17, 2027.
